Our Microsoft Outlook 97 tutorial shows how to setup Outlook 97 to retrieve email
-
Open Microsoft Outlook 97 and choose "Tools" from the menu bar.
-
Choose "Services".
-
Click on the "Services" tab.
-
"Internet Mail" should be one of the information services listed there.
If it is not, click on the "Add" button, then highlight "Internet Mail", and click on "OK".
If it is, highlight "Internet Mail", and click on the "Properties" button.
-
Now, we will use the example of an account with Uniwebserve with the following account info:
Domain name: yourdomain.com
Email Address: info@yourdomain.com
Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com
User Name: Your username
-
In the "Internet Mail" dialog box, click on the "General" tab. Fill in the boxes as follows:
Full name: Your Name
E-mail address: info@yourdomain.com
Internet Mail Server: yourdomain.com
Account Name: (use your full email address)
Password: Your password
-
Next, click on the "Connection" tab.
If you log onto your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and then check your mail, choose "Connect using the network". Or uncheck to connect manually. This means you need to connect using your ISP then open Outlook to send and receive email. If you want Outlook to dial into your ISP for you, then choose "Connect using the modem". If you choose the latter, you will need to contact us for instructions on configuring your dialer.
-
Click on "Apply"
-
Click on "OK"
-
Click on "OK" again
-
Now to retrieve your mail, in the Outlook window, choose "Tools" from the menu bar.
- Then select "Check for New Mail".
Note: If you have difficulty sending emails, you may need to use a different Outgoing Server. This page explains how to quickly and easily configure your outgoing server.
